You know what ends up being the most stressful part of many wedding days? FAMILY PHOTOS. You just finished your ceremony, you’re trying to enjoy your cocktail hour but grandma’s in the bathrooom and Uncle John won’t leave the bar. And you don’t even want a picture with your drunk Uncle John but your mom will have a meltdown if you don’t, and wait, where the fuck did your creepy cousin and his uninvited plus one go?! Ya. That. Every. Time. So! Here are a couple strategies to help control the madness... 1. Make a shot list. Of all the people and combinations you want in these formal family shots. Then go back and edit that list- not necessarily limiting the number of people, but limit the number of combinations. 2. Assign a “family wrangler”. Your photographer and coordinator will do their best to get the family where they need to be, but like, I don’t know who your Auntie is. So, assign one bossy family member on each side, and give them your shot list. Then threaten those family members with no dessert if they don’t report to photos on time. 3. Decide on a photo spot, away from cocktail hour, and when you’re doing it. Usually I recommend knocking out these photos directly after the ceremony (hopefully people aren’t too drunk yet), and maybe there’s a side lawn, the front of the building, or staying in the ceremony area, but for goodness sake, don’t do them in the cocktail hour area! Then you have hoards of guests looky-looing and slowing the whole god damn process down!! Phew! Can you tell this is something I get frustrated with?!
